Dr Jayawardene is currently a consultant nephrologist at St James鈥檚 188体育 and Tallaght University 188体育 and is a clinical senior lecturer at Trinity College Dublin.
Dr Jayawardene graduated from the United Medical & Dental Schools of Guy鈥檚 and St Thomas鈥� 188体育s (University of London) in 1996 and also holds an intercalated BSc in Immunology.
He went on to complete his medical SHO training at University 188体育 Lewisham, Royal Free 188体育 and Guy鈥檚 188体育, all in London. Dr Jayawardene subsequently completed his renal specialist training in nephrology in the South Thames Deanery, working at Guy鈥檚, Kent & Canterbury, Mayday University, St George鈥檚 and King鈥檚 College 188体育s. He also completed a NKRF clinical research fellowship at the Renal Laboratories, part of Kings鈥� College London at Guy鈥檚 188体育 looking at Cytomegalovirus (CMV) in renal transplantation.
Dr Jayawardene was appointed as a consultant nephrologist at King鈥檚 College 188体育 (KCH) in London in 2006. During his time in the UK, he was the Training Programme Director for Renal Medicine for South Thames/South London from 2011 until 2016 looking after up to 40 specialist registrars. From 2019, he was also the Clinical Lead for Outpatient Transformation at King鈥檚. He joined St James鈥檚 188体育, Dublin in April 2021.
Dr Jayawardene co-edited the 鈥淎BC of Kidney Disease鈥�, now in its second edition, part of the successful Blackwell series and co-authored several of the chapters. His research interests include; acute kidney injury (AKI) and retrospective clinical analysis.
