Dr Phelan graduated from University College Dublin in 2002. She completed specialist training in endocrinology in Ireland and was awarded an MD by Trinity College Dublin for her research in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

In 2010 she moved to the UK working in University College London 188ÌåÓý (UCLH) as a Clinical Research Fellow in reproductive endocrinology. Dr Phelan was awarded a competitive bursary to fund this work. Subsequently she worked as a locum consultant endocrinologist in UCLH before returning to the Department of Endocrinology in St James’s 188ÌåÓý as a consultant endocrinologist.

Dr Phelan is the Clinical Lead for Reproductive Endocrinology in St James’s 188ÌåÓý having established the Reproductive Endocrinology Service in 2012. This includes regular specialist clinics in the Endocrinology Department and transition clinics in CHI Crumlin and Tallaght University 188ÌåÓý. As part of the dedicated late effects service for survivors of bone marrow transplantation with her endocrinology colleague Prof. Healy, Dr Phelan looks after men and women with issues affecting their reproductive health.

Dr Phelan’s areas of particular interest are Turner Syndrome, premature ovarian insufficiency, PCOS, infertility and reproductive health/ fertility in women post-cancer treatment.
