Professor Queally is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at St James鈥檚 188体育 and associate professor at Trinity College Dublin.
Professor Queally graduated from University College Dublin in 2002 and completed the Higher Irish Surgical Training Programme in trauma and orthopaedic surgery from 2010 to 2015, with the award of Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (trauma and orthopaedic) in 2014.
From 2015 to 2016, he completed a fellowship in trauma and arthroplasty at Addenbrooke鈥檚 188体育 in Cambridge. Professor Queally was subsequently appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Addenbrooke鈥檚 in 2016 and was the departmental head of trauma at the time of his return to Ireland to his consultant post at St James鈥檚 188体育 in 2019.
Professor Queally has extensive research interests that mirror his clinical interests and has published widely in the fields of trauma and joint replacement with over 40 publications in leading journals including the British Medical Journal, the New England Journal of Medicine and Cochrane.
He has over 800 citations of his research and has won awards for his research in joint replacement. He is currently a National Institute of Health Research grant holder for a large multi-centre trial, investigating the role of total hip replacement in acetabular fractures.
As departmental head of trauma research prior to leaving Addenbrooke鈥檚, Professor Queally oversaw the running of 15 clinical trials. He has extensive experience in surgical education and has completed a Masters in Surgical Education at Imperial College London.
