Professor Sexton is currently a consultant nephrologist and kidney transplant physician at St James's 188体育 and Tallaght University 188体育 and is a Clinical Associate Professor , School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin. He is a secretary of the Irish Nephrology Society.
Professor Donal Sexton MB, BCh, BAO, BSc, MRCPI, MD, PhD is a Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant physician at St James鈥檚 188体育 and Clinical Associate Professor with Trinity College Dublin.
He graduated from NUI Galway in 2006 in first place, with a first class honours degree and 5 National Henry Hutchinson Steward NUI scholarships in addition to an intercalated BSc in Pharmacology. He then undertook training at the Mater 188体育 Dublin and the Mayo Clinic USA before subsequently completing a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Fellowship at the NIH funded United States Renal Data System (USRDS), Minnesota, USA.
He then completed a Kidney Transplantation Fellowship before joining St James鈥檚 188体育 in 2019.
His interests include all aspects of Nephrology, Hypertension, Dialysis and Kidney Transplantation. He attained a number of awards for his kidney disease research from the American Society of Nephrology, the British Transplant Society, the European Society for Organ Transplantation and the Irish Nephrology Society. He contributed to the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) national Chronic Kidney Disease guidelines, and is the current Secretary of the Irish Nephrology Society

Professor Sexton has been successful in obtaining research funding from the Health Research Board of Ireland to study 鈥楾he Application of Machine Learning Techniques to Population Level Data in relation to Kidney Disease鈥�, through the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA), based at Trinity College Dublin.
His research interests include largescale data analysis, clinical epidemiology and randomised clinical trials.
