Dr Maeve McAleer is a consultant dermatologist in St James鈥檚 188体育 and in Children鈥檚 Health Ireland. Her interests include adult medical dermatology, paediatric and adolescent dermatology and laser therapy.
Dr McAleer graduated from Queens University Belfast, where she was awarded the Taylor Medal in Dermatology. Following Higher Specialist Training, she undertook Fellowship Training in paediatric and adolescent dermatology, adult medical dermatology and medical laser.
Dr McAleer has PhD from Trinity College Dublin. The focus of her PhD was the investigation of early disease mechanisms in atopic dermatitis. Dr McAleer was the recipient of a COST SKINBAD scholarship to support this research. She is experienced in clinical research, having acted as a co-principal investigator in clinical trials.

Dr McAleer has received several awards for her research including Young Investigator Prize from University College Dublin, Best PhD from the National Children鈥檚 Research Centre, The Burrows Cup from the Irish Association of Dermatologists, The Jacob鈥檚 Medal from the Royal Academy of Medicine, and the RAMI Research Award from the Royal Academy of Medicine.
Dr McAleer has published over forty peer-reviewed articles in medical journals. She has written book chapters, including in the reference textbook Dermatology (Bolognia, Schaffer, Cerroni Eds; Elsevier). She has spoken at conferences, nationally and internationally, including invited lectureships at the World Conference of Pediatric Dermatology and the World Congress of Dermatology.
Dr McAleer has a keen interest in medical education. She is a clinical lecturer in Trinity College Dublin and regularly educates undergraduate and post-graduate trainees and GP colleagues.
