Nephrology

The Renal Unit provides:

Outpatient nephrology clinics for all forms of kidney disease (including those with reduced kidney function and acute kidney injury (AKI)
Specialist renal clinics for hypertension, diabetes and SLE.
An acute haemodialysis service for inpatients in St James’s Hospital (on chronic dialysis as well as those with AKI)
A consultative nephrology service for St James’s Hospital
Anaemia management (both intravenous iron & erythropoietin (EPO))
Chronic kidney disease (CKD), dialysis and transplantation education
Pre-emptive arteriovenous (AV) fistula work-up and construction
Temporary and semi-permanent tunnelled vascular access for dialysis
Native and transplant renal biopsies
Renal transplant work up and subsequent transplant follow up.
